Winds and Percussion Audition Requirements

Students wishing to enroll in applied instrumental lessons should plan to audition. Students wishing to pursue a degree in music with wind, brass, or percussion as their primary emphasis may prepare using the listed items below. These requirements are suggestions. You may choose to perform any pieces/scales that you feel demonstrates your best musical ability, and you will be placed in the appropriate level of applied study.

Woodwind and Brass

Flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba

  • Any major and minor scales.
  • Two contrasting movements of a solo piece or two etudes in different styles, one lyrical, one technical. These should demonstrate your best musical ability. They do not need to be lengthy.

Percussion

  • Any solo piece or etude on one or more of the following instruments: Snare Drum, Mallet, Timpani.
