Students wishing to enroll in applied guitar lessons should plan to audition. Students wishing to pursue a degree in music with guitar as their primary emphasis may prepare using the listed items below. These requirements are suggestions. You may choose to perform any pieces/scales that you feel demonstrates your best musical ability, and you will be placed in the appropriate level of applied study.
Technique Requirements
Perform a total of three scales using (free stroke) or (rest stroke) from the scale options below:
Major Scales
- One three octave Major scale starting on the 6th string.
- One two octave Major scale starting on the 5th string.
Minor Scales
- One three octave melodic minor scale starting on the 6th string.
- One two octave melodic minor scale starting on the 5th string.
- One two octave harmonic minor scale starting on the 5th string.
Repertoire Requirements
Perform a total of two pieces. Choose your selections from two different repertoire collections below:
- Level Three, The Royal Conservatory Repertoire for Classical Guitar
- 13 Moments for solo guitar by Jonathan Marshall (Published by Guitar Chamber Music Press)
- Twenty Leo Brouwer Etudes Simples estudios sencillos for Guitar
- Eight Discernments for Classical Guitar by Andrew York
- Twenty Studies for Classical Guitar by Fernando Sor
- Twenty-Five Studies for the Classical Guitar by Matteo Carcassi
