DSS Testing FAQ for Faculty

What is the role of DSS Testing?

DSS Testing provides students with testing accommodations while simultaneously proctoring exams with the same integrity and conditions met within a classroom environment.

What is your role as instructor?

  • Review and confirm accommodations in Clockwork each semester.
  • Provide clear instructions regarding the details of proctoring your test.
  • Provide testing materials to DSS Testing Center when requested through Clockwork and/or email communications.

What happens when a student requests a test at DSS, and what are the instructors' next steps?

  • Students will initiate a request through ClockWork to reserve a time in the DSS Testing Center.
  • You will receive email notifications of the test requests.
  • Log into ClockWork and upload test(s) and instructor information on ClockWork for each requested testing appointment.
  • Monitor communication from DSS Testing Center regarding the testing appointment.
  • You may need to adjust your instructions or test based on student accommodations and/or DSS Testing Center instructions.
  • If an instructor's expectation directly conflicts with a student’s accommodations, our team will open up a discussion for the best compromise for both instructor and student with the student’s DSS counselor.

How does DSS Testing book a testing appointment?

  • Once DSS Testing has received a copy of the test and your instructor information, the DSS Testing team combines the students' accommodations with your expectations for your students testing in class.
  • A student reservation is changed from ‘tentative’ to ‘booked’ in the Clockwork system.

What can I expect of DSS Testing test security and day-of troubleshooting?

  • Upon arrival, students are informed of approved items based on instructor information and accommodations. They are then asked to lock up all other items.
  • Cameras and visual proctoring are used to monitor test environments.
  • A computer system on our 9 computers that allows us to monitor the screens of students during an exam.
  • DSS Testing proctors do not confront cheating, we promptly report cheating and provide evidence for an instructor to review.
  • If a student asks our team a question regarding test content, or experiences issues concerning their test. A proctor will contact you immediately using the instructor information provided in testing instructions. If we cannot get a hold of you, we may try to call the classroom if class is in session.

Can I proactively set up test appointments in ClockWork?

Yes!

  • As soon as you have decided test dates for your classes, upload your tests and instructor information on ClockWork. ClockWork will automatically apply student test requests to the test dates you have created on ClockWork.
  • If a student requests a date outside of the class test date, ClockWork may not connect the appointment to your uploaded test date. In this case you will receive an email reminder to fill out instructor information.
