Financial Aid regulations require students to make satisfactory academic progress toward the completion of a Job Training program to be considered for financial aid. All students will be evaluated for satisfactory academic progress at the end of the first payment period in scheduled clock hours. All students will be evaluated a second time for satisfactory academic progress at the scheduled end of the program.
Measuring SAP
Satisfactory academic progress is measured both qualitatively, by reviewing the educational objectives completed, and quantitatively by review the cumulative attendance rate. A minimum of 90% cumulative attendance is required, with no more than 10% excused absences. Absences above 10% are unexcused and must be made up.
Qualitative Measurement
- For 18-week programs:
- 35% of course objectives must be completed by the end of the first payment period.
- 70% of the course objectives must be completed by the scheduled end of the program.
Quantitative Measurement*
- For 18-week programs:
- 276 clock hours must be completed by the end of the first payment period. 551 clock hours must be completed by the scheduled end of the program.
- Maximum time frame = 27 weeks of instruction for 18-week programs.
*Students are allowed no more than 8 excused absences in the 18 week program.
Qualitative Measurement
- For 22-week programs:
- 50% of course objectives must be completed with 90% competency by the end of the first payment period.
- 100% of the course objectives must be completed with 90% competency by the scheduled end of the program
Quantitative Measurement*
- For 22-week programs:
- 348 clock hours must be completed by the end of the first payment period.
- 695 clock hours must be completed by the scheduled end of the program.
- Maximum time frame = 33 weeks for programs with 4-week practicums
*Students are allowed no more than 24 hours missed during the first 10 weeks of a 22 week program.
Monitoring Process
- Attendance and course objective completion data will be submitted to the Financial Aid Office for review at the scheduled midpoint of the program and again at the scheduled end of the program.
- Students must meet the qualitative and quantitative standards listed above at the end of the first payment period and again at the scheduled end of the program.
- Failure to meet the terms of the policy at the end of the first payment period will result in the student being placed on Financial Aid Suspension for the next payment period.
- Students on suspension are not eligible for financial aid until they meet the terms of the policy and return to “good standing” status or submit a successful appeal. Students may not graduate from the program while on Financial Aid suspension.
Suspension and Appeals
Students failing to meet the standards of academic progress due to circumstances beyond their reasonable control may appeal their suspension. Extenuating circumstances may be grounds for a successful appeal.
- All appeals must be submitted to the Financial Aid Office through Student Forms. Submission instructions can be found here.
- Students submitting appeals should state the reasons why satisfactory academic progress was not made.
- The student must provide neutral third party documentation supporting the reasons given.
- The student should also discuss actions that have been or will be taken to make satisfactory progress in the future.
- Financial aid suspension appeals will not be considered for students who are on Academic Suspension.
Financial Aid Payment Processing
While on suspension, you are not eligible for financial aid disbursements.
When you return to good standing status or an appeal is approved, financial aid may be disbursed for the appropriate payment period as long as you are still enrolled.
After 18 Weeks
If you are still on suspension at the end of 18 weeks and wish to remain in the program, you will be charged an added 9-week period. There is no additional financial aid eligibility for added periods of enrollment.
