Curriculum Development

Curriculum defined

At GRCC, curriculum is defined as a scope and sequence of learning activities that is arranged in a logical order for a defined audience. The scope responds to the breadth of learning intended and the sequence illustrates the order, with complexity of learning outcomes becoming greater over time. The overarching purpose of curriculum is to describe the intentions of a learning experience. A curriculum is also a planning and communication tool that lets stakeholders (faculty, staff, students and the community) know what is being taught, why and how the intended learning is to inspire and impact the learners.

Faculty responsibility

Faculty are responsible for the development and implementation of the curriculum, in alignment with the GRCC Curriculum Policy, and for assuring its academic substance, currency and relevancy for its internal and external constituencies. Faculty utilize the institutional processes of Program Development, Program Review, Course Development and Course Review & Revision in order to assure the relevance and rigor of the curricular offerings. Through these processes, faculty define the learning outcomes for students for both programs and courses and develop cohesive curricula that incorporates the General Education Learning Outcomes and aligns Program and Course Outcomes, as appropriate. The curriculum development process includes a plan for the assessment of student learning outcomes at each level. The GELO assessment is embedded in the Program and Course Learning Outcomes assessment.

Curriculog

Curriculog is the tool used to house all of the curriculum information.  Instructional Support has created a few guides and reference information to assist in the process of using Curriculog to post your new/revised program and course proposals.
