Notice: Expect Traffic Congestion on Main Campus Due to Construction

Expect heavy congestion on Lyon and Fountain street with ongoing construction. Two way traffic will continue on Lyon and Fountain Street through the fall 2024 semester. The intersection at Lyon and Division will close for six weeks starting Oct. 31st. Watch out for updated street signs as you pass through campus.

Plan accordingly and give yourself extra time to travel to and from Main Campus.

Parking on the Grand Rapids campus

GRCC parking ramps are normally open 24 hours a day/7 days a week for vehicular use, however during some holidays and college shut down periods the ramps may be closed.

As a downtown urban campus, the GRCC Main Campus has limited parking on site. During peak times (Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.) on-campus parking is at capacity.

The storage is located in an enclosed and covered area, in the northwest corner of the lowest level of Parking Ramp A. The area is unmonitored, and participants gain accessed by using their RaiderCard.

You may park your bicycle in this area at your own risk of any theft, fire or damage to their bicycle or its contents. You must be a current student or employee to enroll in this program; a change in your enrollment or employment status will forfeit your eligibility for this program.

EV Charging Stations

Two new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations are available for staff, student and visitor use within Parking Ramp A (formerly Bostwick Street Ramp). The staff charging station is located near the staff parking entrance off Fountain NE. The student/visitor station is located near the Bostwick NE ramp entrance. Each station is able to charge two cars at a time on adjacent parking spaces. Only vehicles that are using the charging stations may park in the designated spots which are painted green.

If the EV charging stations in Parking Ramp A (formerly Bostwick Street Ramp) are highly utilized, more stations will be considered in the future.

Using a Charging Station

In order to use a station, you must have a ChargePoint account. ChargePoint fully manages all of our charging stations and they provide support 24/7 from through the app or the support number listed on the station’s interactive screen. For additional information including instructions and videos on how to use the station, download the ChargePoint mobile app and sign up for a free ChargePoint account. In addition to station usage fee, users must have a valid parking permit, or pay the designated parking fees.

To ensure that access is available to as many users as possible, vehicles using the charging stations must be moved to a regular parking space within Parking Ramp A (formerly Bostwick Street Ramp) or exit the ramp when fully charged. When the vehicle is charged, ChargePoint will send the user a notification that the car is charged, and that they have 30 minutes to move the vehicle.

Cost

The cost to use an EV station is 15 cents per kilowatt hour. After the 30-minute time period the user will be charged $1 per hour.

Metered parking

There is limited metered parking on the city streets surrounding Main Campus. Metered street parking is heavily patrolled. Tickets often result from expired meters and illegal parking. You can now use your cell phone to pay for parking at a city meter. Learn more on the City of Grand Rapids website.
