GR Promise Zone Mentorship Program

The Grand Rapids Promise Zone has created a mentorship program specifically for our Promise Zone students. Our goal is to help create and grow a student’s social capital and expand their networking opportunities at GRCC and professionally. We want to focus on career-oriented support and coaching by our mentors and provide Promise Zone students with real-life experience to prepare them for their future beyond GRCC.

Interested in becoming a mentor?

Complete the application for the 2024-2025 academic year, and we will contact you with additional information.

Objectives of the Program

  • Create a professional contact with regular touch points to enhance a students social capital and connection to their desired career field.
  • Help a student feel more confident in understanding/selecting their career choice/path based on their interests.
  • Ensure the students feel connected to the GRCC campus i.e. student groups/organizations, tutors etc.
  • Connect students with off campus resources specific to their career path/program of study.

Career Preparation

Mentors will assist Promise Zone students to prepare for entry into the workforce by helping them understand the expectations employers have around soft skills and career-related knowledge. Mentors can also help Promise Zone students see the link between their current interests and hobbies and a future career or professional field. • Explore the financial & social resources available in the field
  • Share personal experiences of working in a specific career(s)
