Accommodation Approval Process

All students with disabilities who would like accommodations at GRCC must register with Disability Support Services. The process is as follows:

  1. A student completes the DSS “Registration” form found on the Clockwork student portal.
  2. A student provides documentation directly to DSS. If faculty receive documentation from a student about a disability they should work with the student to get documentation to DSS. Faculty should not review documentation or keep it.
  3. A student must have an interactive discussion with a DSS counselor/advisor in order to request specific accommodations and seek support for barrier removal.
  4. DSS Counselor/Advisor considers requests and assesses functional limitations of disability to determine whether it is reasonable and relevant for this student. DSS Counselor/Advisor does this by reviewing documentation and information to thoroughly understand the need and confirming ways that the accommodation removes specific barriers to educational access.
  5. Once accommodations are approved, a student receives a detailed list of all their accommodations related to the classroom, testing, technology needs, and or other areas of educational access.
  6. Each semester a student will determine the accommodations needed for each class. The student will then provide a Letter of Accommodation to the instructor through Clockwork. The accommodations are considered active when the student completes this process. The faculty member should have access to the letter at the time of submission through the Faculty Portal of Clockwork.
  7. Faculty are invited to contact Counselor/Advisor listed on Accommodations Letter for any questions.
  8. Students are invited to contact the Counselor/Advisor to change or request additional accommodations at any time.
  9. Students must renew their Accommodation Letter each semester for each course.
