Appointment information
Your first appointment will begin with a medical and dental history, intraoral and extraoral examination and radiographs (x-rays) as determined necessary. A specific plan for your treatment will be explained to you. Generally, after all assessments have been completed, a complete dental cleaning for a patient who has regular dental care requires a minimum of one to two appointments. In addition, thorough assessments are collected to determine your risks for tooth decay and gum disease.
Patients may not be accepted for treatment in our clinic if the following occurs:
- The patient has a medical or dental condition that prohibits proper treatment in our clinic.
- After an evaluation the patient may not be eligible for a clinic appointment due to high blood pressure, joint replacement, premedication, etc. If a condition is detected the patient’s doctor will need to be consulted before another appointment is scheduled.
- Children 4 and under are not recommended for an appointment due to the length of time required for proper treatment. It is difficult for children ages 4 and under to sit for long periods of time.
- All children under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian present in the clinic to fill out and review medical history with the student and clinic instructor before services are rendered.
- We do not allow parents to bring an infant or toddler into the clinic while the parent is being seen for treatment. This is due to safety concerns for the child and other patients.
