If you are a current student or employee, your RaiderCard is your library card, and allows you to check out materials, log in to our computers, print, use interlibrary loan services like MeLCat, access materials off campus and other services.
If you are a former student, you can still use your RaiderCard to check out materials, but some restrictions will apply. You will not be able to log in to the computers, use interlibrary loan services or access materials off campus.
If you do not have your RaiderCard, you must have provide your student ID number and a photo ID to check out materials.
Community members may present a photo ID to register for a free library card. Please note that some services, such as computer access, are restricted for non-students.
If you have forgotten your library card and want to borrow from our collection, we will simply ask to see your photo ID.
It is possible to print, copy, and scan materials in the library. Material can be scanned to your email account without charge. Printing and copying costs for students are:
- 8.5 x 11 Black Ink - $0.10
- 8.5 x 11 Color Ink - $1.00
- 11 x 17 Black Ink - $0.20
- 11 x 17 Color Ink - $1.50
The Circulation Desk is where you check out library materials, retrieve items placed on reserve, get headphones to use in the library, get change and pay fines.
Books are generally loaned to students for three weeks; loan periods vary for other types of materials. Students are allowed one self-serve renewal through RaiderCat.
Each book costs 25 cents for every day it is not returned. The maximum fine is $10 per item. A lost book is billed for its replacement cost plus a $10 processing fee. For most reserve materials, the fines are 25 cents per hour.
If you have overdue materials, a library hold will be placed on your student record and you will not be able to obtain your official transcript. Contact a Circulation Desk representative at (616) 234-3872 or (616) 234-3189 for assistance.
Your instructor may put materials on reserve to ensure that the whole class will have access to the required readings. Tell the Circulation Desk representative the name of your instructor and the course number to access this material.
Always begin your online search for materials using RaiderSearch. If the item you want is not available, click the button that says “Search MeLCat” to use our interlibrary loan service.
MeLCat is a statewide service that helps you locate and borrow books that are not in our library. Deliveries usually take three to five business days. We will contact you by email or phone to pick up your item(s) at the Circulation Desk when it arrives.
Our general interlibrary loan service allows students and employees to borrow books, DVDs, CDs and articles from libraries all over the world. Loan periods vary according to the rules of the lending library. Copies of articles are yours to keep. Visit the interlibrary loan webpage for details.
Web-based services and resources are available 24/7. Your student ID number may be required to:
- Search using RaiderSearch.
- Access search databases available on campus.
- Read ebooks available on campus.
- Check your library account.
- Renew titles.
- Check interlibrary loan requests.
- Watch videos or listen to audio books available online.
- Place MeLCat requests.
- Get email assistance for your reference questions.
