Available Services

Academic Advising

Students who are registered with Disability Support Services will be assigned to a Counselor or Advisor and can seek out advice on what classes they need or should take each semester.

Career Preparation

Disability Support Services counselor/advisor can provide students with career counseling, labor market information, information about GRCC degree plans and transfer options, and referrals to agencies providing supportive employment services. Students will be directed to the Student Employment Office for assistance with resumes, job search techniques, and interview skill preparation. Throughout the job search process, direction and advice from the Disability Support Service counselor/advisor will be available.

Community Agency Referrals

Referrals may be made to area organizations who may provide additional support. Organizations include:  private counseling and support groups, Michigan Rehabilitation Services, Bureau for Services for Blind Persons, social service agencies, as well as other college services such as the Counseling and Career Development, Financial Aid, Tutoring, and Disability Testing Services.

Students who are approved for testing accommodations through their counselor may request to test with Disability Testing Services login to the Clockwork Student Accommodations Portal. Disability Testing Services is located in the Student Center, Room 358.

Disability Accommodations

Students who follow the Steps of Registering for DSS will have an Accommodations Agreement created during the interactive Intake Appointment.  All accommodations are approved on a case by case basis with the student's input. Common accommodations include extra time and low distraction location for testing, assistive technology, alternate formats of textbooks and other class materials, accessible furniture, note taking support, captioning and sign language interpreting.Priority Registration

Students who are registered with Disability Support Services have the opportunity to register for courses on the first day registration opens each semester.

Tutoring Services

Disability Support Services doesn't offer tutoring services, however, appointment based peer tutoring may be requested through the Academic Support Center by all GRCC students and is based on tutor availability. Also, students are encouraged to take advantage of GRCC Tutorial Labs that provide drop-in assistance for Math, English/Writing, Reading, Foreign Languages, Business, Health Sciences, Science and Advanced Math. Students who are registered with Disability Support Services may qualify for accommodations during their tutoring sessions (for example: interpreters, adaptive equipment, assistive technology, alternate locations, etc.).

Transfer
