GRCC Players production of 'Detroit '67' nominated for Grand Award

Congratulations to GRCC students Michael Francis, David Dekens, Marqea Lee and Raydale Bonivel, who were nominated for 2018 Grand Awards!

The winners of the awards, which celebrate area college and community theater, will be announced during a ceremony on Oct. 21.

Francis and Lee were nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a College Production and Outstanding Lead Actress in a College Production, respectively, for their roles in “Detroit ’67.” Bonivel was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a College Production for the play.

Dekens was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a College Production for his role in “This Is Our Youth.”

The GRCC Players production of “Detroit ’67” has been nominated for Outstanding College Production.

GRCC alumni are also up for several awards:

  • Sammy A. Publes, nominated for Outstanding Direction of a College Production for “Detroit ’67.”
  • Michelle Urbane, nominated for Outstanding Direction of a Play for “Torch Song Trilogy Act III: Widows and Children First” at the Jewish Theater.
  • Brooke Bruce, nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress for “Fool for Love” at Heritage Theater.
  • Madeline Jones, nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress for “The Whale” at Actors Theater.
  • Sam Johnson, nominated for Outstanding Sound Design for “Into the Woods” at Circle Theater, ” “Shrek” at the Civic Theater, “Annie” at the Civic Theater,  and “My Fair Lady” at the Civic Theater.
  • Steve Nardin, nominated for “Torch Song Trilogy Act III: Widows and Children First.”
  • Catherine Marlett-Dreher, nominated for Outstanding Lighting Design for “Fun Home ” at Circle Theater, “Into the Woods,”  “Shrek,” “Torch Song Trilogy Act III: Widows and Children First”  and “Annie.”

GRCC theater faculty member Tom Kaechele was nominated for Outstanding Direction of a Play for “Leading Ladies” at Circle Theater, and staff member Christian Poquette was nominated for Outstanding Scenic Design for “Torch Song Trilogy Act III: Widows and Children First.” Staff member Carrie McNulty was nominated for Outstanding Direction of a College Production for the GRCC Players’ “This Is Our Youth.”
