Waitlisting is here!

Selected high demand courses offer waitlists when they reach enrollment capacity. You can add your name to a waitlist through your Online Center. Joining a waitlist does NOT guarantee registration in the class. You must satisfy all course prerequisites and be eligible to register before adding your name to a waitlist.

How Does the Waitlist Work?

If a section is waitlisted, and you are the first person on the waitlist, you will be automatically enrolled in the class, if a class becomes available. It is important to note that if this occurs past the tuition due date, you will have until midnight that day to pay your tuition bill.  If you don’t, you will be dropped from the class and the next person on the wait list will be enrolled.

If you are enrolled, you will receive an email to your Grand Rapids Community College account reminding you to pay your tuition bill by midnight of the day you were automatically enrolled in the class.

How do I determine if a class has a waitlist?

  1. Visit your MyGRCC portal.
  2. Select the GRCC Online Center button.
  3. Select the Add/Drop Classes link.
  4. Select Class Search and Enroll, then choose the upcoming semester.
  5. Type the class prefix and course number (including a space between) you wish to look up in the field under Search for Classes, then click the arrow under that field.
  6. On the left under Class Status, the Wait List Classes filter option will appear to indicate that a class has a waitlist.

How do I add my name to a waitlist?

Not all courses have the waitlist option. If the course does have a waitlist option, simply follow the step-by-step directions:

  1. Visit your MyGRCC portal and select the GRCC Online Center button.
  2. Select the Add/Drop Classes link.
  3. Select Class Search and Enroll, then choose the upcoming semester.
  4. Type the class prefix and course number (include a space between) you wish to look up in the field under Search for Classes, then click the arrow under that field.
  5. On the left, under the Class Status put a checkmark next to “Wait List Classes” or remove the “Open Classes” checkmark to reveal more options.
  6. Select the course you wish to take!
  7. A list of courses will appear. Click the blue hyperlink for class information and click through the tabs in that window. When you have seen the class notes and requirements to enroll, click the “x” in the top right corner to close that window. Once you have chosen a course, click the arrow on the far right, in the Seats column.
  8. In Step 1 of 2, Switch No to Yes in the “Add to waitlist if class is full?” line.
  9. Confirm your selection by clicking the Accept button on the top right.
  10. Click Submit on the top right to add the course to your shopping cart.
  11. You will see a check mark that notifies you that the course has been added to the shopping cart. Now, in the menu on the left, click your Shopping Cart to finish your enrollment.
  12. Click the box in the Select column to add a checkmark to the course/s you would like to enroll in, and then select the Enroll button.
  13. Check the status of your enrollment attempt.
    • A green check mark means you were successfully placed on the list. An “x” means you did not enroll in the course.

There are no charges for being placed on the waiting list. Please check Tuition Due Dates. Payment must be made as scheduled if you are automatically enrolled in a class .

You will receive an email notification to your GRCC account when you become enrolled in a waitlisted class. It is extremely important, therefore, to monitor your email daily.

When is the last date I can add my name to a waitlist?

The last date a student can be added to a waitlist is determined by one of two dates.  It is the earliest of either the last date to enroll or the day the class starts.

How do I know where I am at on the waitlist?

Once enrolled in a class when do I pay my tuition bill?

The normal tuition due dates apply the day you are automatically enrolled in a class. If you are automatically enrolled in a class before the tuition due date, your new tuition bill will be updated in the Online Center.

Before the tuition due date

If you are enrolled in class from the waitlist before the tuition due date your new tuition bill will be updated in the Online Center.  It is your responsibility to pay this new amount on the tuition due date.

After the tuition due date

If you are enrolled in class from the waitlist after the tuition due date, it is your responsibility to pay the amount by midnight  of the same day. If you do not pay this amount, you jeopardize your entire schedule as the system will randomly drop a class for  non-payment. It may drop your waitlisted class OR it may drop another of your classes if your tuition is not paid. It is imperative to pay your tuition before midnight of the day of enrollment!

Payment plan

If you have an active Payment Plan, your new balance will automatically be updated to reflect any changes to your amount due.  You will receive an email notification of any changes to your payment plan.

What do I do if I no longer want the class I waitlisted?

  1. Visit your MyGRCC portal and select the GRCC Online Center button.
  2. Select the Drop Classes link.
  3. Click the box in the Select column to add a checkmark to the course you would like to drop, and then click the Next button in the upper right.
  4. Click the Drop Classes button in the upper right.
  5. Select the Yes button to confirm the drop.

Can I waitlist for more than one section of a class?

Yes, as long as there aren’t any time conflicts. This must be done in two separate waitlist requests. If you do get a seat in one of the sections it will automatically remove you from the other section of the same course.

Do my waitlisted courses count toward my status for financial aid eligibility?

No. Your eligibility will only change if you become enrolled in the class. It is extremely important to monitor your waitlist status because automatic enrollment could change you from a part-time student to full time.

How many credits can I waitlist?

You may waitlist up to 13 credits. Note that GRCC does not allow you to be enrolled in more than 18 credit hours per semester.

What happens if I don’t pay my tuition on time and I’m dropped from a course that I waitlisted into?

If you choose to put your name back on the waitlist, you will be placed at the bottom of the list. That is why it is vital for students who are on waitlists to monitor their email messages.
