Accuplacer Test

Notice: English placement

The Accuplacer test will no longer be used for English placement after the Summer 2023 semester. We will transition to the new Blackboard English test for the Fall 2023 semester.

Determine which English courses will meet and challenge your skill set

Accuplacer results aren't pass or fail — they help you identify any courses you can bypass, as well as the reading and writing courses best for you.

Who needs to take the test?

You must take the Accuplacer test for enrollment if you have:

  • Taken the SAT before February 2016
  • Taken the ACT before February 2018
  • Taken the Accuplacer test before October 2018
  • Fewer than 12 college credits
  • College GPA below 2.0

What is on the test?

The Accuplacer test consists of two components:

  1. Reading Test: 20 multiple choice questions, with unlimited time to complete.
  2. Writing Test: One essay, consisting of 300 to 600 words, with a 40 minute time limit -- scored electronically.

Email placementtesting@grcc.edu if you would like to request sample questions and practice resources.

Schedule Your Test

Testing is available on campus Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Friday from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

When you've completed the assessment, you'll receive a printed report of your scores. You'll also receive a list of recommended courses for you to enroll in, but the testing staff cannot interpret scores for you.

To request scores for another institution, please fill out our Accuplacer Record Release Form.
