Maria Vilardo

About Me ​​​​​​Maria is a native of Niagara Falls, New York, and received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the State University of New York at Fredonia ('08), and her Master of Science in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration from Buffalo State College ('13). She's had the opportunity to work in a variety of different roles and areas of academic and student services, and has been an Academic Advisor since 2015. Before settling down in Grand Rapids and joining GRCC in 2018, she's worked at various types of colleges and universities in 3 other states and Canada. Maria feels that her diverse experience allows her to connect with students and assist them along their educational journey towards reaching their goals. In her free time she loves traveling, watching sports, reading, and spending time with her husband, step-daughter and dog. Heather Den Houter

Heather earned her Associate of Language Arts from GRCC. She has many fond memories of being a student! Heather received a Bachelor of Arts, from Aquinas College, in Communications and Social Sciences. Then she earned a Master of Education in Higher Education, College Student Affairs Leadership, at GVSU. She is a member of the Michigan American Council on Education Women’s Network (MI-ACE) and Michigan Career Educator and Employer Alliance (MCEEA). Heather is a first-generation college student. At GRCC, she worked as a student employee in experiential learning and the library. Then she was an intern in student life, testing, and international admissions. During the rest of her career, Heather has worked in academic advising, career services, campus recruitment, admissions, financial aid, counseling, and interpreted career assessments. She served as an administrative professional, for three years, in the Academic Advising and Transfer Center. She's been working as a Support Professional for the Occupational Support Program since August of 2021.  Heather enjoys helping individuals with career development and exploration. Her passion is assisting students, employees, alumni, and job seekers attain their career goals and aspirations and assisting them in any way she can! She has her own consulting business and assists individuals in transition, those working and wanting to transition into a different career, and students. Heather likes spending time with her husband, daughter and son, two cats, friends, and family. She enjoys traveling and checking out new places. Heather likes spending time outdoors: hiking, biking, and camping. She believes it’s important to keep learning, by taking classes and reading.
