As the Director of the Experiential Learning Department at Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC), I oversee the development and implementation of high-impact learning opportunities that enrich the academic and personal growth of students. In my role, I lead GRCC’s Honors Program, Service Learning, Study Away, as well as policy and procedures related to College Sponsored Student Travel. By fostering partnerships with faculty, students and community organizations, I strive to create meaningful, learning experiences that align with the college’s strategic goals and mission of student success.
With over 20 years of experience in higher education, I am responsible for the daily operations of the department, ensuring that all programs adhere to best practices and institutional standards. In addition to my work with faculty, I lead an amazing team of staff and interns, overseeing recruitment, training, events and professional development.
Collaboration is at the heart of my work. I regularly engage with academic leadership, faculty and external partners to strengthen experiential learning practices. Whether it’s leading monthly department meetings or participating in college-wide initiatives, my goal is to enhance GRCC’s reputation as a leader in experiential education.
In addition to being an alum of GRCC, I hold a Master’s degree in Public Administration and a Master’s degree in Social Work from Grand Valley State University, both of which have equipped me with the skills to manage complex projects, build strong teams and drive positive outcomes for students.
