Amy Soper joined Grand Rapids Community College as associate director of communications in May 2023, bringing more than 23 years’ experience to the team in marketing, journalism, and communications, including serving as director of content strategy for the University of Arizona College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and assistant director of creative services for University Communications at Central Michigan University.

Soper previously served as a senior communications specialist at Priority Health, the health insurance arm of Corewell Health, in Grand Rapids, Mich.; copywriter at Bolger and Battle, Inc., a marketing communications firm based in Midland, Mich.; and reporter at daily newspapers in Michigan and Indiana, primarily writing about education and public safety.

Her higher education marketing and communications efforts have focused on building and maintaining brand voice and identity, recruiting and retaining students, and integrating strategic messaging across continually evolving print, web, and digital media channels.

Soper graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism after transferring from Delta College, where she earned an associate degree in liberal arts. As a first-generation student and a community college graduate, she is a firm believer in the power of community colleges to transform lives and empower positive changes in individuals and their communities.
