Ashley is a second-time college student who returned to GRCC in May 2023 to pursue a technology career. Since she was working fulltime while attending school, she appreciated GRCC’s flexibility in spreading the coursework out over 24 weeks instead of 18. Ashley chose the Certificate in IT Computer Support because of the handson apprenticeship it offered. She graduated in December 2023.
Ashley’s professor required that they write article reviews every week on topics in computer science. This was an eye-opener for her, as she realized she was gravitating to articles on neuroscience every time. Through that work, she discovered a way to integrate her passion for the brain and artificial intelligence with her computer science knowledge. She plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in either cognitive neuroscience or computational neuroscience. In the meantime, Ashley enjoys working at Corewell Health and gaining more practical experience in computer science.
Ashley says, “I am so grateful to GRCC for this opportunity. I didn’t realize how hard it was going to be, but they provided the support I needed to persevere and succeed. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished. Now I am stepping into an industry with almost unlimited potential.”
