Oct. 4, 2022, GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Mason Kolhoff matched his personal best time and was second in a field of 101 runners in a recent race, earning the Grand Rapids Community College freshman Michigan Community College Athletic Association men's Cross Country Runner of the Week honors.
Kolhoff, a Martin resident who graduated from Otsego High, helped the GRCC men’s cross country team to a first-place finish at the Oakland Raider Invitational last week.
"Mason earning athlete of the week, I couldn't be prouder,” coach Rob Hyde said. “He works so hard in training, on race day, in classes -- and he even works a job every night. Truly a driven and determined teammate who is a great leader in word and in deed."
Kolhoff at the Oakland Invitational tied his personal record of 26:38, finishing in second place.
The men's team is ranked No. 13 in the first U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll of the season.
It is the second straight week a GRCC runner received Runner of the Week honors.
Last week, Kaylee Scott, of the No. 6 ranked women's team was named MCCAA Runner of the Week.
GRSS is next scheduled to compete in the Muskegon Community College Invitational on Oct. 15. Competition is set to begin at 1 p.m. for the women and 1:45 p.m. for the men.
