GRCC Phi Theta Kappa chapter earns international awards, recognition

April 14, 2022 GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Grand Rapids Community College’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter received international awards and recognition during the organization’s national conference this month.

GRCC’s chapter, Alpha Upsilon Kappa, was recognized as a Top 100 Chapter and a Most Distinguished Chapter out of nearly 1,300 chapters during the four-day conference in Denver.

Phi Theta Kappa is the international honor society for two-year colleges. GRCC students attended educational forums, reviewed a five-year strategic plan and held officer elections during the Catalyst 22 event .

A survey organized by Alpha Upsilon Kappa members was named a Top 45 College Project.

“Our PTK members worked with President Bill Pink last summer on a survey of GRCC student’s feelings about returning to campus after the pandemic,” said associate professor Lynnae Selberg, Alpha Upsilon Kappa’s advisor. “After developing the survey, they studied the findings and made recommendations on how to make students feel safe and secure in returning to in-person learning at GRCC.”

Chapter President Aya Ghlaim won Distinguished Chapter Officer, and GRCC alumna Morgan Brown received the Paragon Advisor Award – both out of hundreds of entries.

Phi Theta Kappa is made up of more than 3.5 million members and nearly 1,300 chapters in 11 nations.
