My GRCC Story: Parzinder Ghavri decides to back business experience with associate degree

Parzinder Ghavri had always been an excellent student, but she was still nervous about attending GRCC.

Financial and personal challenges meant that she went right into the workforce after graduating from a New York high school in 2000. She worked in management positions for various companies and now wanted a business degree herself.

Her brother highly recommended where he was enrolled: GRCC.

“I always wanted to learn because I know the importance of education and a rewarding career,” Ghavri said. “My family helped fulfill my dreams and supported me when I chose to return to studies.”

She found encouragement and guidance from Business Department faculty members Brent Spitler, Ann Alexander and Sharon Palmitier and Rachel Lutwick-Deaner from the English Department. She also credits Brian Daily in the Business Tutorial Lab with boosting her confidence in herself and her work.

Ghavri now helps other students in her job as a student tutor and front desk assistant in the Business Tutorial Lab. On weekends, she works with small groups and packs lunches for Kids’ Food Basket.

Ghavri, a member of Phi Theta Kappa and Delta Pi Alpha, plans to return to the workforce after she receives her associate degree in Business Administration, but she would like to return to college someday and earn a bachelor’s degree.

“GRCC has been a life-changing experience,” she said. “I didn’t know an education could happen in such a friendly, welcoming environment.”
