The Stewart Edward White Hall Symposium on Contemporary Issues looks at: Gun Violence In America

In response to the shootings in Newtown, Conn., and similar recent events, faculty from the Psychology, Social Sciences, and Criminal Justice departments will:

  • share research.
  • analyze the debate over the Second Amendment.
  • introduce ideas on ways to handle these incidents in the future.

February 11, 2013 -- Psychological research on aggression, cultural norms, video games, guns, mental health, and the media. This session will include refreshments and an opportunity for community dialogue after the presentation.  Presenter: Dr. Frank Conner.

February 12, 2013 -- The historical, economic, and cultural perspectives surrounding the current debate on the Second Amendment.  Presenters:  Dr. Lisa Gloege, Dr. Dillon Carr, Associate Professor Gordon Vurusic, Dr. Robert Henderhot.  Moderator: Professor Mike Light.

February 13, 2013 -- A criminal justice perspective on prevention, safety, and workers in the field as well as how to deal with perpetrators after the event, including sanctions and the reaction of law enforcement.
