My name is Nicole Gibbons and I graduated with an Associate in Science degree from Grand Rapids Community College in May of 2009. The GRCC science departments helped me tremendously in preparing to transfer to a four-year institution. The courses were challenging and the faculty were extremely helpful with their guidance and advice for my future career. I am currently going to Grand Valley State University to obtain my Bachelor's of Science degree in Chemistry, and while there, I was able to help run the Chemistry Club and Electrochemistry Club. I plan on going to graduate school to earn my Ph. D. in Organic Chemistry. The path that I took, going from GRCC onto GVSU helped me save money without compromising my education. Looking back, I really enjoyed my time at Grand Rapids Community College and I appreciate all of the faculty's advice that helped me succeed.
My name is Sam Honderd and I am a first year student at Ferris State University College of Pharmacy. I attended Grand Rapids Community College for three years of undergraduate work. GRCC offered very flexible and challenging course work that prepared me for my further education. Small class sizes allowed for convenient questioning and more in depth class discussions. The concepts that were taught in lectures were reinforced through the experiments during lab. Labs also introduced the problem solving skills that I continue to use through out my career. GRCC instructors were great at providing the information on the subject and motivating the student to work hard in the course. I really enjoyed my experience at GRCC and relationships that I built with the instructors and my fellow students.
Allison Van Os
My name is Allison Van Os. When I chose to attend GRCC, it was due to a transitional period in my life of deciding a career pathway. I was delighted to find that the school, my professors, and the cost efficiency enabled me to find my passion for science. Furthermore, GRCC became a gateway to transfer classes easily along with the knowledge, hands on experience, and strong academic background, I was able to be successful in my further endeavors at FSU. The professors I had at GRCC were inspiring. They care about their students and their success which produced a learning environment with priceless one on one instruction where you are a name instead of a number. This environment propelled me to be more goal-orientated and brought me to the place I am presently employed today. Due to the personal interaction with top-notch professors who pushed me to reach my full potential, I was able to complete my goal of obtaining my Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from Ferris State University. I am currently working at local company as a Microbiologist. I perform quality control, routine testing, conduct my own research/project work, work among scientists and solve problems. I am part of a team who is finding faster analysis procedures. This new technology measures ATP using bioluminescence. I am proud to be a GRCC graduate, which made my dream possible.
