Who Swim Masters?
Swimmers 18 and older--our oldest member is in his 70’s and our youngest is 20, fitness swimmers, triathletes, past high school & collegiate swimmers competitive or not all swim with our team. Anyone who has a passion for swimming will fit in. If you're curious, stop in and see what it is all about!
What goes on at practice?
During our three week night practices swimmers have one hour to train with a coach on deck to aid them with by focusing on each swimmers fitness, technique, & speed while avoiding injury. Each swimmer is likely to have specific needs. Coach Mike is more than willing to assist all swimmers to meet their goals.
When Coach Mike cannot make it to a practice--which is rare--we will try to have a coach present to aid in your training, but often times it is difficult to secure a sub at the last minute.
When are the sessions?
Fall 2015 session will begin on August 24th and end on December 18th with practice held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 5:30 - 6:30.
Winter 2016 Session will begin on 1/11.
Why train with the Masters?
Swimmers join GRCC's Masters team to maintain or improve swim skills and abilities in all four strokes; to avoid injury by fine tuning stroke skills; to participate in US Masters Swim Meets or Open Water swim events (all swimmers may, but are never required or expected to compete); to join like minded active individuals in a healthy positive environment; to become inspired to set goals and develop a life long fitness lifestyle.
Where is practice held?
Grand Rapids Community College- GRCC Ford Fieldhouse pool, 226 Ransom Street, Grand Rapids, Michigan.
How much does a session cost?
A swim club fee of $125 per participant is collected each session to pay for pool operation and group leadership. Additionally, each member must register with United States Masters Swimming for insurance purposes. USMS registration costs $39/ year. Anyone may register at www.usms.org. All swimmers must be USMS registered prior to their first practice. Bring a copy of your membership card with you on your first day.
Additionally we have a 15 swim option for $45 for folks who want to participate but cannot make it that often.
Checks should be made payable to GRCC Ford Fieldhouse and be made on or before your first practice.
