General Workshops

All workshops are offered on a drop-in basis and no prior registration is required (unless noted otherwise). Many of the workshops are repeated throughout the semester. All workshops are held in 336 Student Center (next to the Academic Advising & Transfer Center). See upper right hand corner for workshop topics & dates.

Is Online Right for Me? — Online courses provide convenient and flexible learning opportunities for students. This workshop will provide an overview of how online learning works and what skills students need to be successful.

Effective Note Taking — Learn specific note-taking techniques to get the most out of your classes. Strategies for capturing information from lectures and from reading will be covered in this workshop.

Financial Aid Facts — Know how to apply for financial aid and how to avoid losing it. Learn all about grants, loans and scholarships from a financial aid expert.

Stress Management & Relaxation — Everyone feels stressed out sometimes, but it doesn't have to be that way.  Come to this workshop to learn stress management strategies and relaxation methods you can use to recharge your body and mind.

Managing Anxiety: Strategies for in and out of the Classroom  — Come to this workshop to learn the causes of anxiety, how to recognize symptoms and apply strategies for soothing the anxious mind.

Successful Transfer Planning — Learn how to transfer to another institution and how to apply for admission, scholarships, and more.

Non-traditional Career Opportunities — Crossing gender stereotypes through career opportunities.

Thriving in the Face of Racism — Still I Rise!  This workshop is designed to empower Black American students with the life skills and coping strategies necessary to overcome racism and accomplish their life goals.

Overcoming Procrastination — Do you wait for "the last minute" to get work done? Learn ways to break the habit and accomplish your goals.

Building Healthier Relationships — Learn healthy ways to strengthen your relationships with family and friends.

Depression:  Overcoming Sadness and Disappointment — This workshop will review various strategies for coping with the things in life that upset you and give you grief. Come learn productive ways to express your sadness, overcome your hurts, and live a happier life.

Career Planning Basics — This workshop will cover the basics of career planning. Learn a step-by-step planning process and leave with a "next step" goal.

Final Exam Preparation — Create a study plan and learn helpful tips for taking essay, multiple choice, short answer and true-false tests.
