Emily A. Nisley PhD, LPC

Emily Nisley assists GRCC students as a Licensed Professional Counselor and an academic advisor. She's been with the Counseling and Career Center since 2007. Emily has a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Western Michigan University, a Master of Arts degree in counseling from Central Michigan University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology with a minor in women's studies, also from Central Michigan University.

Emily works primarily with students who are beginning their GRCC academic careers with Academic Foundations (developmental) classes in preparation for college-level coursework. Through academic advising and classroom outreach, she aims to support and empower students as they develop and implement plans for achieving their educational and career goals.  Emily also provides career counseling for students who are unsure about career goals, and personal counseling to help students address personal difficulties in an environment of safety and understanding. In advising as well as in personal and career counseling, Emily believes in the importance of the working relationship and strives to build genuine, collaborative connections with students.

In addition to working closely with students and faculty in the Academic Foundations Program, Emily serves on GRCC’s Diversity Team and Behavioral Intervention Team. Additional professional interests include mindfulness-based interventions and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender issues and education.
