GRCC, Calvin College to sign institutional agreement

Oct. 24, 2016 GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Grand Rapids Community College and Calvin College will sign an institutional agreement on Oct. 24 that provides GRCC students with a seamless path to Calvin's programs.

GRCC President Dr. Steven C. Ender and Provost Laurie Chesley and Calvin President Michael Le Roy and Provost Cheryl Brandsen will participate in the signing, which will take place at 4 p.m. in the Steen Conference Room at Calvin's Spoelhof Fieldhouse Complex, 3195 Knight Way SE.

Ender said institutional agreements save GRCC students time and money.

"In addition to strengthening our long-standing relationship with Calvin College, this agreement provides our students with the clear steps that they need to take to transfer to Calvin's programs," he said.

Le Roy noted that they also are an excellent way for Calvin to continue furthering the college's mission.

"This agreement is a way to expand the invitation for more GRCC students to continue their academic exploration at Calvin," he said. "We welcome them into Calvin's mission and look forward to seeing the gifts they bring to our campus."

The institutional agreement is the first step to creating program-specific agreements with Calvin. These program agreements will map out what classes students need to take at GRCC to seamlessly transfer to Calvin for their third and fourth years. The program agreements will appear as academic programs in the GRCC catalog and will be eligible for financial aid.

"GRCC appreciates the opportunity to partner with Calvin College in building clear transfer pathways between our institutions," Chesley said.  "We are both deeply committed to our students' success."

Added Brandsen, "Calvin College benefits from this agreement because it provides another on-ramp to a Calvin education, one that GRCC students might not have thought about or imagined when they began their academic careers at GRCC."
